Favorite Thingz, which launches today, is a new service from Sprout Commerce, the makers of MyPickList. It's like a really lightweight version of their original product, but more focused on plugging in to social networks - think of it as the RockYou of product recommendations. So what does it do? Well, it lets you create a badge representing your favorite brands, bands, movies, services, stores and teams and post it to MySpace, Xanga, Tagworld, hi5, Multiply, Piczo, Friendster and hundreds of other social sites. You can choose items from their database or add your own.

Favorite Thingz creates a slideshow of all the stuff you add, and you're free to add it to your page without registering. But here's the interesting part: if you register for Favorite Thingz, you can earn commission on all the products sold through your widget - CDs, DVDs and services. I'm told the Flash embed has been fixed to deal with the latest MySpace update, although it still remains to be seen how MySpace will react to the idea itself (is it advertising?). Of course, the code also works on blogs, so it's not as though all their eggs are in one network.

That said, Favorite Thingz is brilliantly designed: it takes less than a minute to create your list and stick it on your page. It also has a cool little Flash app that lets you customize the colors, text and transition effects - this is very similar to what Slide have done with their custom slideshows tool, which MySpace have now copied (see MySpace slideshows). All in all, a really neat product.
