LONDON -- Horrendous, skin-crawing Bushtucker trials are nothing new on ITV reality game show I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, but Wednesday night's challenge was definitely the most nightmarish we've seen in awhile.

In a bid to win food for her fellow camp-mates, reality TV star Ferne McCann had to lie in a coffin-sized, underground pit filled with snakes.

Forty snakes. For a total of eight minutes.

The snakes, which entered the underground pit through pipes in the walls, took quite a liking to McCann. Many of smaller pythons slithered over her face, while one of the larger carpet pythons decided to coil itself around her neck.

Twitter went into a snake emoji-fuelled meltdown.

Oh my god. #ImACelebrity Ferne needs to win after that!— Lutfiye Salih (@LutfiyeSalih) December 2, 2015

Honestly I have never seen a trial so scary in the whole of the series!! Horrified #snakes #ImACelebrity — Emma Bottomley (@SmemzIt) December 2, 2015

Fearne has got some serious big balls with this snake trial #ImACelebrity— Amy Allen (@AJAllenx) December 2, 2015

Despite the fact that McCann could have quit the trial at any point, though -- and let's face it, who would have blamed her -- she stuck it out for the full eight minutes. She even managed to crack some joke about looking Britney Spears at one point when the python was wrapped around her neck, and if that's not a sign of keeping a cool head under pressure then frankly we don't know what is.

Take a bow @fernemccann you were amazing, there is no way you would get me doing that!! #ImACelebrity — Julie Waters (@juliemwaters) December 2, 2015

Nice work, Ferne.
