Mozilla has announced that it will be releasing a mobile version of its popular Firefox browser. Much like the Web version, Firefox’s mobile browser will be open source and allow developers to create extensions. Additionally, Mobile Firefox would potentially allow you to sync your bookmarks, history, extensions between your Web and mobile browsers.

There are of course plenty of competitors in the mobile browsing market, including Opera Mini, Safari on iPhone, and Microsoft’s “Deepfish” project. Mozilla has added additional staff to help develop Mobile Firefox, though it’s still not expected before the end of the year.
