Science geeks, rejoice: You have a new series to look forward to. The National Geographic Channel is partnering with GE to produce Breakthrough, a new series featuring episodes directed by a star-studded cast.
The folks behind the show, which is produced by Imagine Entertainment and Asylum Entertainment, gave Mashable a first look at the series back in July. Now we're pleased to show you details of an especially intriguing episode called "More Than Human" -- and directed by Paul Giamatti.
This episode explores scientific discoveries in cyborg technology, which is increasingly melding minds and machines into new, more useful beings. In the video, Giamatti talks about what drew him to the series, and this episode in particular.
"Humanoid" ponders important questions, such as whether we'll become more or less human as the natural and manmade worlds increasingly merge. It will also go behind the scenes of initiatives like the Walk Again Project, which aims to assist those with traumatic spinal injuries.
Breakthrough also covers other intriguing topics, including brain science, longevity, energy, pandemics and water availability.
"Fighting Pandemics, "which is directed by Peter Berg of Friday Night Lights fame, will even feature an interview with Ian Crozier, who fought the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone until he contracted the disease himself.
Other directors include big names like Ron Howard ("The Age of Aging") and Brett Ratner ("The Brain: The Final Frontier").
