An Australian fisherman has used old fashioned hard work to haul in a shark with just a hand reel.

Brendon Hilder spent two hours trying to drag the four-metre tiger shark to shore at Shelley Beach, Western Australia on Tuesday. The event was filmed by shocked onlookers, who watched as Hilder struggled with the beast before using the assistance of an onlooker to win the battle.

The persistent fisherman had gone down to the beach to catch salmon, but he turned his attention to the shark when it scared all his expected prey away, the West Australian reported.

Hilder told the newspaper: "A 4m shark has a fair bit of pull on it. I was absolutely knackered ... I couldn't even hold my handle, I was that buggered."

Filled with pride, Hilder posed for a photograph with his catch before releasing the mammoth shark back into the ocean.
