Czech fishermen started preparing for Christmas way back in November, during the annual Carp haul.

In central Europe, it is a century-old tradition to eat common carp as the main course on Christmas Eve. The carp is harvested primarily from Lake of Dvoriste and the southern Bohemian Lakes where the fish are gathered in large nets and sorted by the fishermen.

The Christmas carp, however, are not merely enjoyed on a plate. According to tradition, families let the carp swim in their bathtubs for a few days before being prepared to eat.
