Are you a resident of the San Francisco? If not, don’t read any further. Flickr’s got a treat for those of the Bay Area and surrounding boroughs that’s going to leave those foreign to the Golden Gate mighty starved. Literally so. If Matthew Rothenberg is anything of an honest and accurate barometer, when Wednesday rolls around, some Flickr users are going to be treated to some sweet-tasting donuts.
Not much can be found through a Web search for Mr Rothenberg. The man’s got a site with a bareboned blog - of which the most recent post is dated January 26, 2008 - and claims to be a social technologist at Yahoo (or a Flickr product manager, to be more specific). But hey, a name, a face, and a brief bio is enough to go on, right? Sure, why not. So mark those calendars. April 16. 11AM (We’re assuming PDT). The donut shop of choice is TBD. But he promises to provide sustenance in the form of flour, sugar, and maybe even some creme to member of the We Demand Donuts group. Which is, you know, way too cool an opportunity to pass up. We’re in a recession here, people. Take what you can get, we say.
Oddly enough, the goal for We Demand Donuts - besides poking very blatant fun at the anti-Video on Flickr movement - has been to build a membership of 20,000. As of Saturday evening, the effort has yet to attract a virtual crowd even 2,200-strong.
