LONDON -- There were delays to most flights in and out of Scotland Monday morning because of a technical fault at the air traffic control centre in Prestwick.

The National Air Traffic Services said it identified a technical problem overnight that was causing "interference on some radio frequencies that we use to speak to aircraft."

"It only affects part of Scottish airspace and flights from some Scottish airports this morning may be delayed as a result," NATS said in a statement on its website.

Edinburgh Airport tweeted to say there would be delays to all flights Monday morning, but said no flights were being cancelled.

UPDATE: NO flights cancelled, some flights delayed. Please check with your airline and see detail here https://t.co/8RmSHJkH9k— Edinburgh Airport (@EDI_Airport) October 26, 2015

Glasgow Airport tweeted about similar situation there.

Due to technical issue with air traffic control there may be delays to some flights. Please contact your airline for specific flight details— Glasgow Airport (@GLA_Airport) October 26, 2015

There were also delays experienced by passengers at Aberdeen Airport.

The control centre in Prestwick looks after planes over Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and the North Sea between 2,500 ft and 66,000 ft as well as aircraft over much of the north of England, the Midlands and north Wales from 2,500 ft feet up to 28,500 feet, according to the NATS website.
