Flipboard is expanding its catalog of media offerings. In addition to news, magazine, audio and video content, the so-called "social magazine" for iOS devices now has a section for books -- specifically, Apple's 1.5 million iBooks.

The books section includes an array of genres, including fiction, biographies and travel guides, all of which can be purchased through the iBookstore. Each entry showcases the title, cover and publisher's description. Recommendations have been customized for 10 countries, including the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Italy and Spain.

Flipboard will receive a cut of every sale through the iBookstore Affiliate Program, a spokesperson for Flipboard confirmed. That opens up a second revenue stream for the company, which already displays ads.

Android users don't yet have access to the books section -- or to iBooks, for that matter -- but we imagine a parallel offering is on the way.
