Flixster CEO Joe Greenstein dropped us an email late last and let slip with a rather impressive fact: Flixster, the social media movie rating application, has just crossed over one billion movie ratings, having reached the number in less than two years from launching the service.
"1,000,000,000 is a great milestone but you should see what a mess our office is with all those post-it notes." said Flixster CEO Joe Greenstein. "We could really use some computer people to help us figure out a better system for the next couple billion."
I didn't have a clue, though, exactly how popular the service was. Flixster receives a whopping 3 million movie ratings per day, beating out NetFlix by a cool million ratings.
Aside from a barrage of impressive figures, Greenstein says that if you're the sort of fellow who makes bets on the success of movies, you'd probably want to put some money on the upcoming flick American Gangster.
"748,000 people marked the movie as "want to see," making it the most anticipated online movie release in our history," Greenstein said.
Flixster is a company I'll be paying a bit more close attention to, now. If you want to, as well, you probably won't need to look very far. They've previously announced they'd be participating in OpenSocial, already have MySpace compatible widgets, and have a mighty popular Facebook application.
