The travel industry enjoys -- or at least seems to enjoy -- creating new words that are, to put it simply, completely terrible. (See: bleisure.)
But for some reason the portmanteaus are irresistible, and the latest travel-related organization to succumb to temptation is Gatwick Airport. Are you ready? "Floga."
Considering the current state of economy air travel, it wouldn't be completely unbelievable if it had something to do with flogging. Instead, however, it's all about staying healthy.
Floga is pre-flight yoga, a 20-minute video class at Gatwick designed to limber you up before you spend hours in a cramped seat in the sky.
“It’s really just the whole long pre-flight yoga thing doesn’t sound as cool as ‘floga,’” Shona Vertue, the yoga instructor who developed the class for the airport, told The Telegraph.
The "Floga" lounge opened last week; inside, the video class is shown on a loop.

“I am a frequent and nervous flyer and I know the physical side effects of long-haul flying," Vertue told The Evening Standard. "(Long-haul flight) puts a huge amount of strain on the body ... If you address that before the flight you will obviously feel so much better when you get off the plane."
Vertue is not the first to introduce yoga to the terminal: San Francisco International Airport has a yoga room that consistently baffles new visitors.

I always thought the yoga room at SFO was ridiculous but now I am seriously considering using it— Valerie Aurora (@vaurorapub) November 1, 2015
Gatwick officials were inspired by SFO, according to The Evening Standard.
But in California, it's just yoga. At the airport.
Silly name or no, there's no downside to getting a great stretch in before, during or after traveling.
