The year is 2016, and you still have a floppy disc-compatible A drive in your computer. You wouldn’t want to just let that go to waste, would you? But how do you put a 3.5-inch floppy to use when they only hold 1.4 MB of data?

You throw an SD card in it, which conveniently fits right into the floppy’s metal shutter. After a slight adjustment to the connector pins in the computer and a rewiring, you have yourself a floppy disc with 128 GB of storage. Imgur user gilmour509 figured out this cool hack while gutting and upgrading a 1995 IBM Aptiva desktop.

With this technology upgrade, you can experience a real blast from the past without being limited to the primitive storage capabilities of the ‘90s.

If you’re interested in trying this trick out yourself, the steps are pretty difficult unless you have a decent background in computer tinkering. You’ll have to cut up and modify some hardware pieces and run the floppy/SD connection through a USB connection. Gilmour509’s post on Imgur goes into specific details on how to do it yourself.

Gilmour509 also included photos of the whole upgraded computer along with its technical specifications, boasting an Intel i7 CPU, 16 GB of RAM and a Radeon R9 390 video card.
