In 2008, two friends had an idea to fuse Korean barbecue with Mexican tacos and sell them out of a truck on L.A.’s streets. It took the world by storm.

Food trucks took roadside eats to another level, starting a food movement on wheels.

The food truck phenomenon has turned into a $800 million dollar industry, according to National Geographic.

Every truck offers a different taste of diverse cuisines and flavors. Some of which have created new classics, such as Korean tacos.

Thousands of upscale food trucks roam city streets all over the nation from San Francisco to Austin to Washington, D.C. The food truck invasion has even made its way across the pond to Milan, Italy, for this year’s World’s Fair.

In the July issue of National Geographic magazine, David Brindley and photographer Gerd Ludwig set out to document the LA food truck scene.
