Liautaud used his spring break to attempt to ski to the Last Degree of the North Pole and compete to be the first to check in there. The kitschy Foursquare expedition -- documented via Facebook and Twitter -- was also for a good cause. Ultimately, Liautaud set out to inspire young people to "build a more sustainable future."

According to Twitter updates, Liataud faced "insurmountable conditions" and was unable to reach his final destination by skis as originally intended. The Eton College student apparently reached the Last Degree via helicopter, though he's still credited with the first checkin.
