While Foursquare and other geolocation services have been busy inking deals with partners and brands, what makes The Today Show deal unique is that, well, it was announced on The Today Show.

The Today Show also has three custom badges that visitors can earn: the Newbie badge for first checkins, a "Roker" badge for three checkins and a "10 to 10" badge for those that check in at the Plaza concert series 10 times or more

Getting such wide exposure, especially from an outlet with as broad of a reach as The Today Show, might indicate that geolocation apps and networks are close to reaching a tipping point of mainstream awareness.
