Fox is keeping alive its hopes of bringing hit British series Luther to the United States.

The network on Tuesday ordered a so-called cast-contingent pilot, which means production on the pilot will move forward if they can find the right actors to fill the roles.

The adaptation of the BBC series will be written by original series creator Neil Cross. Idris Elba, who stars in the original as the titular genius detective, is attached as an executive producer, but is not currently slated to star in the Fox remake.

It's interesting to see Fox move forward with this adaptation of the critically acclaimed series, considering it didn't have much luck bringing Broadchurch over from across the pond.

The network chose not to order more Gracepoint, which was led by original series star David Tennant, back in December.

Other pilots ordered from Fox, include: Frankenstein, a drama from Howard Gordon (Homeland) about a morally corrupt retired cop who is brought back from the dead; 48 Hours 'Til Monday, a single-cam comedy; and Rosewood, a one-hour close-ended investigation series.
