In a surprise move, Saturday Night Live alum Fred Armisen has signed on as the bandleader for "Late Night with Seth Meyers."

Armisen will join Meyers -- who will be filling the shoes of Jimmy Fallon at "Late Night" after 13 years as a writer (and later head writer) on SNL -- starting Monday, February 24. The band will be called 8G.

"Fred will curate and lead the band, and continue to run it even when he's off shooting Portlandia," Meyers tweeted on Monday.

Armisen is best known for his comedic work, but has been a drummer since high school and performed in the punk rock band Trenchmouth. Not only will he lead the 8G band, the partnership confirms that we're in for some top-notch late-night banter.

Meyers said farewell to SNL on Saturday, February 1. His final show featured an alum reunion on Weekend Update, featuring former cast members Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg and of course, Armisen.
