Ever since the Oscars introduced an Academy Award for "Best Visual Effects" in 1977, film technology has advanced exponentially. With each advancement, filmmakers have upped the ante each year, creating new works of art that stretch the limits of the imagination.

Filmmaker Nelson Carvajal created a supercut that includes titles from several Hollywood blockbusters, such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, Forrest Gump and The Matrix. The video also includes a score by Oscar winner Hans Zimmer, who is known for his larger-than-life compositions. A fitting tribute for such a colossal category.

The first recipient of the award was the iconic film Star Wars, in which visual effects company Industrial Light and Magic had a significant impact on the film industry due to its work on the famous trilogy.
