In Search of the Ultimate Selfie

Trying to take a picture in low light is a challenge for even the very best photographers, much less Snapchat selfie-takers.

Since smartphones don't have forward-facing flashes, the inability to take selfies in the dark is a sad reality that many of us have simply come to terms with.

But not William Jamieson. The sophomore at the College of Charleston built an Android app called Front Flash that solves the problem. Jamieson says he applied coding skills he learned in college courses to the Android SDK.

The app uses a smartphone's screen as a makeshift flash, creating a bright white frame around the camera preview and transferring the fallout to the subject.

Since its release in the

Jamieson plans to spend the rest of the summer improving the app and possibly releasing a “Pro” version to generate a profit.
