A natural gas pipeline burst at a metro construction site in Hangzhou, China, on Friday morning. Dense smoke started pouring out of the 30 cm (11.8 inch) puncture, and filled the air with a rotten egg stench, said local eyewitness reports (link in Chinese).

The force of the smoke rushing out reached a height of 20 storeys (link in Chinese), engulfing a nearby building.

There were fears that a larger fire or explosion would occur with the amount of natural gas billowing out. So far, there have been no reported casualties.
