Why the Gatorade Bath Never Caught on in Basketball

The time-honored celebratory Gatorade bath is one of the funnest traditions in sports. You know the drill: In the closing moments of a championship game, players from the winning team stalk their coach before dousing him from behind with a massive tub of ice-cold Gatorade.

It's a perfect ritual for sports like football and baseball, which are played outside on water-absorbing surfaces that maintain traction even when soaked. But basketball? There's no place for the Gatorade bath on the hardwood court. The video, above, from a recent community-college basketball game in Nebraska, shows just why.
