June marks LGBT Pride Month, chosen to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots, a violent protest between police and visitors at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in New York City.

One quick way to stay tapped in to LGBT happenings is to follow famous activists on Twitter. Many powerful people use the 140-character social tool to spread their messages of equality, from transgender author Janet Mock to sex columnist and It Gets Better cofounder Dan Savage.
