The 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush, has broken a bone in his neck after a fall Wednesday.

The incident occurred at his home in Kennebunkport, Maine, CNN reported.

Suffering a broken bone in the vertebrae of his neck, Bush remains in hospital in a stable condition.

On Twitter, Bush spokesman Jim McGrath wrote that Bush was fine, but that the former president would have to wear a neck brace.

"It was not life threatening," McGrath told CNN. "We are not expecting a long stay."
