Country legend George Jones, who had top-charting singles in five separate decades starting in the 1950s, died Friday at age 81 in Nashville after postponing two shows and being hospitalized for blood pressure irregularities and a fever, the Associated Press reports.

The biggest names in the country realm quickly reacted to the news of his death on Twitter, tweeting high praise about his long music career, which included such hits as "He Stopped Loving Her Today," "I Don't Need Your Rocking Chair" and "The Race is On."
