LONDON -- Christmas in the capital: you either love it or hate it.

Whether you can't get enough of the festive markets, ice rinks and last minute shopping, or run to the hills as soon as December rolls around, it's hard to deny London gets a bit more epic at this time of year.

Getty photographer Peter Macdiarmid has trawled the archives to find iconic pictures of the city at Christmas, and digitally merged them together to show how much the place has -- or hasn't -- changed as each new year rolls around.
