But apparently, Arenas has turned sour on the medium, telling the AP, "It's just like the double-(edged) sword thing: Eventually your words is going to kill you,” and “it's like everything I said, everybody started using it as firepower, instead of saying it's just entertainment.”

Having followed Arenas’ career, I’m fairly confident this won’t be the last we hear from him in the realm of social media. While he apparently hasn’t taken to Twitter like his NBA peers Shaquille O’Neal and Charlie Villanueva, who was recently ordered by his coach to stop tweeting during games, Arenas was one of the first NBA stars to catch onto the power of the Web to broadcast his message and garner more support from fans.

Some athletes have taken it even further, with the likes of Amare Stoudemire and Chris Bosh launching elaborate, multi-platform campaigns to get themselves voted onto the All-Star team, which usually results directly in bonus money and endorsement opportunities.
