This year marks the 25th anniversary of Glamour's Women of the Year awards, which celebrate women's achievements in entertainment, business, philanthropy, and more.

On the cover of the magazine's Nov. 10 issue is Reese Witherspoon, honored not only for her onscreen performances but also for her production company, Pacific Standard. Witherspoon-produced movies like Wild and Gone Girl have earned Oscar nods, proving that Witherspoon's reach extends far beyond her own career.

Also featured on foldout covers are Caitlyn Jenner, Misty Copeland, and the South Carolina women dubbed the "Peacemakers of Charleson" after a violent June shooting at their church. Jenner's inclusion in particular led to some social media backlash -- both because she is trans and because of her family's wealth and privilege.

"[It] certainly gives you an appreciation for the hostility to the trans community that still exists out there," said Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive in response. The Women of the Year awards are intended to thrive on winners' diverse stories and experiences -- such as Copeland's journey to becoming the first African-American principal for the American Ballet Theatre.

Comedian Amy Schumer will open the magazine's upcoming awards ceremony, while Jennifer Hudson and Ellie Goulding will also perform for the honorees and illustrious guests. Among the other honorees are Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Holmes, Planned Parenthood's Cecile Richards, and the U.S. Women's soccer team.

The awards will take place on Nov. 9, which will be declared Women of the Year Day by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
