In the wake of the Paris attacks on Friday that left at least 129 people dead, crowds gathered in cities around the world Saturday night to pay tribute to the victims of the night of terror.

The White House, London's Trafalgar Square and French embassies around the world became gathering places for those wishing to send a message of love and strength to France.

In Paris itself, although authorities encouraged citizens to stay indoors, Parisians and visitors laid flowers, candles and notes outside the sites of the violence, and at the popular square Place de la Republique.
