An image hidden in Apple's new iTunes 12.2 software may have just leaked news that new iPod colors are coming, including gold.
The image, first spotted by MacRumors, reportedly surfaces when a user tries to set up or restore an iPod. The photo -- which appears to be a marketing shot, similar to other pictures Apple uses to promote products -- showcases a gold iPod nano, a dark blue iPod Touch and a hot pink iPod shuffle.
Besides the color, the iPods look unchanged from current models. However, Apple may have plans to update the iPod's internals, while keeping the outer appearance the same.
It's been quite a while since Apple has paid attention to the iPod; in fact, the last major iPod updates came in 2012. As more consumers turn to smartphones for music playback, sales of iPods have dropped over the years.
But if Apple has plans to keep the iPod around, it would make sense to roll out new colors to the lineup, especially as it introduces silver, gold and space gray to more products. While those three colors first made their way to the iPhone, they are now available as color options for the MacBook and Apple-owned Beats headphones.
