Fans of high profile sports couples are again questioning if love truly exists after golf superstar Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland broke off his engagement to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
McIlroy, 25, decided to break off the five-month engagement to Wozniacki, 23, because he felt he "wasn't ready," according to a statement released by his management on Wednesday.
"There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people," McIlroy said in the statement. "The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails.
"I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we've had," McIlroy continued.

McIlroy proposed to Wozniacki on New Year's Day and the couple announced their engagement on their respective Twitter accounts. The couple had been dating since 2011.
As they will, people took to Twitter to comment on McIlroy's decision and the "Wozilroy" couple.

McIlroy won his first major title at the U.S. Open in 2011 and followed that win with his second major title at the PGA Championships in 2012.
Wozniacki was the No. 1 ranked tennis player in 2010, despite having never won a Grand Slam (winning four major titles in the tennis season). Currently, she's preparing for the second major title in the season, the French Open, on May 25.
