We gained some new gold iPhones on Wednesday -- the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus -- but we also lost some. The gold iPhone 6 or 6 Plus are no more -- at least, on Apple's online store.

If you try to purchase the gold iPhone 6 or 6 Plus from the Apple website, you'll find that the option to do so has disappeared. The only color options left for the iPhone 6 model are now space gray and silver. The same goes for the gold iPhone 5S.

While Apple didn't exactly hide this update during its presentation on Wednesday, the company failed to mention that anyone interested in a gold iPhone now has to upgrade to the latest model.

At first glance, the move seems odd, since it isn't as though Apple is dipping the phones in actual gold. But making the 6S and 6S Plus the only gold iPhones available could create an artificial demand among those devoted keeping their iPhones layered in the faux-precious paint job.

If you must have a gold iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, there are likely some still floating around at independent retailers, but the gold supply for last year's iPhone from Apple itself has been cut off.
