Mirroring its app support of the iPhone and iPad, Google has released its first app designed for Apple's newest mobile device, the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch version of the Google News & Weather app, which draws news from roughly 65,000 news sources, puts the latest headlines on your wrist, along with time stamps and tags indicating the original news source.

Although the News app offers a powerful information resource, its interface is relatively stripped down and free any of any design flourishes. That could be a feature (simplicity) or a bug (not in tune with Apple Watch's colorful interface), depending on your taste.

Another thing that stands out is the absence of any Apple Watch screenshots of the app's weather data, which on the iOS version of the app is culled from Weather.com. When we tested the app on an Apple Watch, no weather data was presented and the app was only listed as a "news" app.

Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mashable regarding the apparent absence of the weather feature, so we'll have to wait for an update -- or perhaps even a separate Google Weather app -- for the wearable at some point.

In the meantime, you can try the Dark Sky Apple Watch app for real-time weather updates.
