Google announced during its annual developers conference Google I/O that its new Chromebooks are now available at various Best Buy locations in the U.S. and Dixon's in the U.K.
The news -- which came during Google's keynote on the second day of its conference -- will pit Google's OS-based laptops up against competitors such as Apple in retail locations. Previously, Google Chromebooks were available through online retailers such as Amazon.
Although the Chromebooks will be available in 100 U.S. Best Buy stores, it's unknown how many Dixon's locations will carry the product.
Google announced in May the latest additions to its Chromebook line, an update for Chrome OS and a smaller Chromebox device.
The latest Series 5 Chromebook is said to run up to three times faster than the first generation of Chromebooks the company launched in 2011.
