Google Wins Advertiser of the Year With These Ads

Google took home the Advertiser of the Year trophy this week during the 54th annual Clio Awards -- the Oscars for advertising professionals -- on the strength of ad campaigns for such projects as Build with Chrome, 100,000 Stars, Re:Brief, Google Display and Google Fiber.

You've seen the ads (if you haven't, check them out below), but how does Google ensure they stand out in the ever so crowded world of advertising?

"Always start with rabid empathy and always strive for radical simplicity," Robert Wong, chief creative officer of Google Creative Lab, told Mashable after accepting the award at Wednesday's ceremony in New York City's American Museum of Natural History.

"Know the user, know the magic, connect the two."

"At the highest order, our job is to remind the world what it is they love about Google," he added.

Wong plans to deliver the Clio statuette to Google's "fearless" chief marketing officer Lorraine Twohill's desk.

"We spend a lot of time trying to get creatives in the industry excited about the magic of digital and the potential of technology for emotional storytelling, so it was especially meaningful to be recognized for that work by this community -- as part of this community," Wong said. "The coming together of art, copy and code has created completely new possibilities and uniquely new opportunities."

Also at the Clio Awards, Coca-Cola earned the inaugural Brand Icon award, while Marcel Worldwide won Agency of the Year, Ogilvy & Mather secured Agency Network of the Year and Biscuit Filmworks snagged Production Company of the Year.

Here are some of the ads that helped Google nab Advertiser of the Year.
