Fans of Google Doodles are in for a treat with the launch of a new iOS app, highlighting every illustration ever featured on the search giant's homepage.
The free Google Doodle app -- which launched on Wednesday -- is not affiliated with Google directly, but archives the more than 1,000 doodles featured worldwide over the years.
Users can filter the doodles based on year and country, read details about the image and add it to a favorites list.
Since 1998, Google has incorporated holidays and events into its homepage's signature logo. The first-ever doodle was created when company founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin hinted they were attending the Burning Man festival in Nevada by placing a stick figure behind the second "o" in Google.
In 2000, the company asked then-intern and current webmaster Dennis Hwang to create a doodle for Bastille Day.
"It was so well received by our users that Dennis was appointed Google's chief doodler and doodles started showing up more and more regularly on the Google homepage," Google says on its website. "In the beginning, the doodles mostly celebrated familiar holidays; nowadays, they highlight a wide array of events and anniversaries from the Birthday of John James Audubon to the Ice Cream Sundae."
