Google Doodle Gets Animated to Salute Designer Saul Bass

Visitors to Google's homepage Wednesday morning were treated to an animated Doodle honoring Saul Bass, a graphic designer best known for animated credit sequences in films from Alfred Hitchcock and Martin Scorsese.

The video above, which was embedded where the Google logo usually is, explains that Bass, who died in 1996, would have been 93 today. To showcase Bass's unique style, Google has rendered its logo in the style of some of Bass's most iconic movie poster designs including Vertigo and Anatomy of a Murder. The video also gives a shout out to Bass's only children's book, 1962's Henri's Walk to Paris.

Bass, who is not well known among the general public yet is revered in his industry, is a characteristic choice for Google Doodle-ization. Recent Doodle subjects include mathematician Leonhard Euler and union organizer Cesar Chavez.
