The equinox is an event that occurs twice a year, when the sun crosses the celestial equator, and the day and night are approximately equal in length.

It is traditionally connected with the coming of Spring in many different cultures, usually marked by harvest festivals falling on or near the same date.

To mark the coming of spring, today's flowery Google Doodle has been designed by Finnish clothing design company Marimekko.

The company has had a big influence on the fashion industry, especially in the 1960ies and the 1970ies.

One of the most famous design elements Marimekko has introduced is the flower that replaces the big "G" in today's Doodle - that same flower was printed on a dress worn by Jacqueline Kennedy throughout the 60ies presidential campaign.
