Google+ Games to Shut Down on June 30

In addition to all the announcements and new features Google has shown us at Google I/O, the company is also continuing its spring cleaning of features and products that don't perform. Next up on the chopping block is Google+ Games, which are going into early retirement.

Google launched Games for Google+ in August 2011, offering titles from publishers such as Zynga and Rovio.

"If you’re not interested in games, it’s easy to ignore them," Google said at the time. It seems that many people did just that, as the company is now shutting the service down, effective June 30.

However, there's some good news for users who did enjoy Google+ Games, and perhaps even spent some money on them.

"Some games will be migrating data to an alternative destination site where you can continue to use your unused payments. Other games are offering a grace period in which you can use any available credits before the game is shutdown," Google wrote in an official note.
