Entrepreneur Creates 3D-Printed Google Glass

Want to try Google Glass, but can't get your hands on a pair? Chinese entrepreneur Sunny Gao just printed a 3D version of the high-tech specs. No big deal.

"Some of my friends went to San Francisco for the Google I/O conference this week, and it got me thinking about Google Glass. I wanted one too -- so I printed one," Gao told Mashable.

During the Global Hackathon on Saturday in Shanghai, Gao printed a replica of the much-hyped Google Glass. But unfortunately, his creation isn't functional yet, so we can't get too excited. No bypassing the wait list to crank out your own Glass for now.

"It's in the pre-alpha stage, so it doesn't work the way we would want it to yet," he added. "Other components such as the processor, sensors are micro-cams are still in preparation. We also plan to utilize the cloud service provided by Amazon or Google to store generated data. With the participation and help from enthusiasms, it could become close to Google Glass in the future."

Well, if it doesn't infringe on copyright issues and Google doesn't object.

In the meantime, Gao posted a SketchUp file of the design, so anyone could print a version of Google Glass with access to a 3D printer.
