Google is teaming up with IBM on an initiative to teach “cloud computing” at six different universities in the US. The two companies will be investing $30 million to build data centers that the institutions will be able to use for teaching and research. The schools that will be a part of the program are Carnegie Mellon, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Maryland and the University of Washington.

Cloud computing is an important part of Google’s underlying technology, allowing the company to run multiple data centers simultaneously all over the world. Meanwhile, IBM is known for its high-end servers and software for business. Not only could this research help advance Google's technology, but will also help the company identify some of the top computer scientists at universities and further help Google continue to recruit the best engineers.
