Google has expanded Inbox, its latest email app, to the iPad and Android tablets, the company announced on Thursday. Before, Inbox was only available on iPhones and Android smartphones.

Initially only available on Chrome, Inbox is also now accessible via the Firefox and Safari browsers.

Inbox, which first launched in October, is a different Google email platform from Gmail. It has a feature called Bundles, which groups together similar messages. For example, bank statements are grouped with receipts.

In addition, Highlights surfaces content from some emails without having to open the messages themselves. If you have a relative who sends a lot of photos, for example, Inbox will show thumbnails for the attachments right in your message stream.

Although Inbox won't likely ever replace Gmail, at least right now, it presents alternatives for users who are looking for something a bit fresher than the traditional email format.

Currently, Inbox is available only on an invite-only basis, but invitations are relatively easy to get. If you're interested in using it, simply email [email protected] to request an invitation.
