Google kicked off its 2012 I/O conference on Tuesday, anouncing a wide range of new or enhanced products to a packed audience of developers and journalists. The conference has become the most anticipated Google event of the year and the place where the search giant has often launched its most important and ambitious projects. Android, Google Maps, Chrome, Google Wave -- all launched at Google I/O. This year was no different and Mashable's got you covered on all the top news from the Google event of the year.

Android Picks Up Steam With Jelly Bean; Google+ Celebrates 1 Year

There are now 400 million Android devices activated globally; that means a lot of Google fans will be eager to upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Huga Barra, director of product management at Android, says it's the fastest version of the OS yet, and will also ship with new features like Siri competitor Google Now for improved voice commands. One Step Closer to Holding Google Glasses

In a surprise moment, Google co-founder Sergey Brin made an appearance on stage for a live demo of Google's still-in-development Google Glass project. Google has previewed the wearable tech before but this was unlike any demo we've seen. Flying high above San Francisco, a team of Google Glass-wearing skydivers gave the audience a first hand look at their descent onto the Moscone Center before BMX bikers and grapplers delivered a pair of Google Glasses to the main stage.
