Done Deal: Google Closes $3.2 Billion Acquisition of Nest

It's official: Google has closed its $3.2 billion acquisition of Nest.

Google revealed in its regulatory filing Wednesday that it closed the deal on Feb. 7, just shy of a month after the deal was first announced.

The Federal Trade Commission had given Google the green light for the Nest acquisition last week.

Google's decision to acquire Nest, which makes a smart thermostat and smoke detector, confounded some initially, but analysts suggest it helps Google establish a presence inside customers' homes and positions it well in the fast-growing Internet of Things market.

"We expect that the acquisition will enhance Google's suite of products and services and allow Nest to continue to innovate upon devices in the home, making them more useful, intuitive, and thoughtful, and to reach more users in more countries," Google noted in the filing.
