This seems to be one of those days when you simply can't get rid of Google-related news. Ardent Googletracker Google Blogoscoped reports that Google News has a new feature: Local News.

To try it out, go to news.google.com, scroll down a bit and enter a zip code or city or state name in a box under the Local News category. Google will respond with this message:

"Your personalized Google News settings have been saved in your Google Account. Now you can access your page from any computer." Of course, you have to be logged into your Gmail account.

The new category will now show up in the regular Google News menu on the left. The good news is that works not only for US cities and states, but it gives very good result for almost any (large) city in the world. Screenshots below.
