Today, Google took it a step further with an animated logo. Although the animation -- an apple falling from a tree -- isn't very flashy, it's still a somewhat odd step for a company so dedicated to simplicity and clear design.

The apple signifies Newton's famous incident, during which -- at least that's how the story goes -- an apple that hit the famous scientist's head helped him devise the theory of gravity. Clicking on Google's logo today will do a search for Isaac Newton, whose birthday is today. He was born on January, 4 1643.
