Google Adds Picasa Images to Search

[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]Finally, Google has integrated Picasa Web Albums into Google Image Search. Public albums can be enabled for a public search option, meaning your images will be more likely to come up in Google image results. And that's a huge improvement, because previously images on Picasa (and Blogger, and Google Docs) were not searchable at all. The other Google applications are still missing out on all the fun, but Picasa images are now searchable. This is limited, however, to a Google image search.

While some implementations of a Google query combine images and video alongside regular link results, the majority of people using Google aren't seeing image results for all their searches. Will this change now that Picasa's part of the picture? Probably not. Some image results from Picasa will require a login in order to view the image in its full size, even if you're already logged into Google, and the images are from a public search.

So while it took long enough for the search giant to include its photo-sharing content in query results, it looks like there's still some tweaking to do in order for this to be considered a more useful integration of Picasa. Yahoo recently added Flickr to its image search results as well.
