Google Will Unveil a Tablet Today, Says Asustek Exec [REPORT]

Google will unveil a new tablet device today, Reuters reports citing an unnamed Asustek executive in charge of the project.

The tablet, reportedly co-branded with Asustek, will target Amazon's Kindle Fire, which retails for $199.

"It's targeting Amazon. The Kindle is based on Google's platform but with its own service, so Google has to launch its own service, too," said the Asustek executive.

This is in line with an earlier quote by an Asustek exec, who also said the tablet would be launched during Google's I/O conference, which starts today.

Tablet specifications have not been revealed, but rumors claim it would have a 7-inch display and would likely run Jelly Bean, the next iteration of Android.
