Google has officially responded to Viacom's $1 billion lawsuit, citing copyright infringement.

Google's stance is to deny all the accusations. Google insists that Viacom's lawsuit is going against the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which established the standards by which the Internet culture lives by. Specifically, in terms of making carriers and hosting providers liable for Internet communications, Viacom's lawsuit stands to change the way in which people exchange information, entertainment and news content.

Of course, Viacom feels that YouTube can stand to have a lot more responsible in terms of how pirated content spreads on their site, and should install better protection methods, as they promised last year. Google also feels that Viacom's lawsuit is a negotiation tactic, but Viacom is more than willing to take this to court.
