Google Wins A Belgian Court Battle

Google wins a legal battle in Belgium for once. ServersCheck BVBA, a Belgian-based provider of network monitoring, claims that Google's "Suggest" search feature has provided links to resources that provide password-cracking tools and serial numbers to unlock their ServersCheck's software. Google's "Suggest" feature shows related links in a drop down menu for the entered keywords.

Initially filed in May, 2006, the lawsuit was dismissed by the Commercial Court in Leuven, Belgium, claiming that Google's "Suggest" feature could not be held liable for finding relevant search results. The courts found no illegal sites in relation to a "ServersCheck" search. The Belgian courts also threw out ServersCheck's claim that Google's "Suggest" function offered misleading advertisements. Perhaps the Belgian courts are finally looking fondly upon Google, after losing to the courts regarding their Google News clippings from Belgian sources.
