Viewer, beware -- you're in for a scare. Or at least a hefty dose of nostalgia.

Columbia Pictures' upcoming movie Goosebumps isn't a straight adaptation of the stories in author R.L. Stine's original 62-volume series (not counting the Goosebumps Series 2000, the Give Yourself Goosebumps choose-your-own-adventure books, the Goosebumps HorrorLand spinoff and numerous others).

Instead, it's a self-referential take on the kid-lit classic that casts Jack Black as Stine himself, a writer whose eerie tales have a nasty habit of coming to life. Jumanji-esque hijinks ensue, with abominable snowmen, ventriloquists' dummies (hi there, Slappy!), werewolves and even bloodthirsty garden gnomes standing in for monkeys and monsoons.

Goosebumps also stars Dylan Minnette, Odeye Rush and Ryan Lee as the trio of teens tasked with stuffing Stine's creations back into their paper prisons.
